We decided that this December instead of enjoying a chocolate from the office advent calendar, we would celebrate the run up to Christmas by giving something back. The ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ involves bringing a donation into the office each day, which will be presented to the Kerith Community Church Foodbank in Bracknell before our office close for the Christmas holidays.
We are always keen to support local charities and have long standing relationships with many in the area. This year, with Christmas often synonymous with overindulgence and excess, the team wanted to help those people who are struggling to feed themselves and their families.
Since starting our Reverse Advent Calendar, we’ve donated long-life food items including staples such as tinned and dried food, along with treats for the Christmas period.
For many low income families, parents are faced with difficult choices between heating their homes, providing Christmas presents and feeding themselves. Foodbanks like the one at Kerith Community Church can make a real difference and help families put food on the table over the Christmas period.
Phil Green, our Managing Director, says “For many local businesses Christmas is celebrated by covering the office in tinsel and fairy lights, organising Secret Santas and office Christmas parties. While the team at CBS embrace all these festivities we also wanted to do something for a local charity and support people in the local community who are finding it tough at this time of year.”
“It’s not too late to set up a similar scheme in your workplace, school or home. Local foodbanks will welcome your donations to help meet demand for food parcels during December and into the New Year.”
The Bracknell Foodbank operates from The Kerith Centre, Church Road, Bracknell, and is open for donations Monday – Friday 9:30-17:00 or Sundays 8:30-13:00 and 17:30-20:00.
