Our Managing Director, Phil Green, along with nine guests enjoyed a great day of cricket on Sunday 4th September when he was invited by Steve Fuller to the Thursley Cricket Club vs Lashings All Stars T20. We’ve recently worked with Steve, Head of Planning at Scotts Miracle Gro, on the company’s office relocation project and Steve knew what a huge cricket fan Phil is.
Steve is also the captain of Thursley Cricket Club so he was one of the local squad to face the likes of Monty Panesar, John Emburey and Chris Lewis. Henry Blofeld was also in attendance as the special guest and commentator.
Thursley Cricket Club vs Lashings All Stars T20
The day started with a youth academy with the Lashings stars – unfortunately none of the CBS team could partake being over 18! This was followed by lunch in aid of local charity Phyllis Tuckwell, who provide hospice care for adults in West Surrey and part of North East Hampshire. The highlight of lunch for Phil, was sitting next to Henry Blofeld – a true gent and a legend.
Entertainment before the match included a bowling simulator, BBQ and tea tent, and bouncy castle. Phil couldn’t resist a photo opportunity with Monty Panesar on the bouncy castle, as the photo shows it’s hard to tell who’s a bigger kid than whom!
As for the match…
Steve was one of the Thursley ‘victims’ who scored 0 off 6 balls. However he did survive Tino Best and nine slips! Strangely the scorecard has mysterious vanished, but Lashing All Stars amassed 332 for 4, and Thursley replied with 80 all out. While the score reflected a rather one-sided match it was still hugely entertaining for spectators, with Henry Blofeld’s priceless commentary.
All in all it was a great day out, thanks to the invitation from Steve Fuller. CBS is always keen to support the charity and community efforts of our clients like Scotts Miracle Gro and it was a pleasure to be invited.
