We were asked to modernise NSI’s facility and to create a welcoming and professional, open flexible reception and meeting space for employees and visitors, underscoring NSI’s contemporary brand image.
NSI wanted to address the fact that in addition to their day to day operations, the legacy reception area and building facilities were often being overwhelmed by large numbers of visitors to the site for workshops, seminars and training events.
To meet this need, an additional 60% of floor area was created in reception, utilising space formerly given over to inadequate washrooms, an obsolete post room and admin office, and WCs. The latter were relocated away from the immediate reception area to a conveniently sited new purpose built washroom and shower facility in an adjacent part of the building. The new reception design included ‘right-sizing’ space for reduced admin and post room functions, all in line with current building regulations.
Inspired by the NSI logo, a deep blue and diagonal clean line design has been used throughout the scheme, resulting in a vibrant welcoming and practical reception, with the main stairwell to the 1st floor office space continuing the theme and displaying relevant brand messaging including NSI corporate values and mission.
Included in the reception solution is feature decoration and a bespoke Corian reception desk. Lighting – now upgraded to LED – features pendants ensuring the space glows from the outside. This welcomes visitors in and strengthens the NSI presence in the local area, via a welcoming glass vestibule/lobby protected by ‘state of-the-art’ access control and CCTV systems. Clever choices of soft seating has given the space flexibility in day-to-day use as a waiting area, informal meeting space and breakout area for use by staff, visitors and training delegates alike.
The reception area is now a true representation of this highly regarded and independent certification body and provides a functional and vibrant backdrop for all visitors and users of the space.
